Το Εργαστήριο Ψυχογλωσσολογίας και Νευρογλωσσολογίας (Τμήμα Φιλολογίας, ΕΚΠΑ) σας προσκαλεί στην τελευταία ομιλία που διοργανώνει τη φετινή ακαδημαϊκή χρονιά στο πλαίσιο του κύκλου ομιλιών για τη γλώσσα, τον νου και τον εγκέφαλο.

Η ομιλία θα γίνει από τον Yosef Grodzinsky (The Hebrew University, Jerusalem) την Παρασκευή 28/5/2021 στις 12:00 με θέμα “Little words that have great significance: Negation and the brain”.

Negation is a small word, that nonetheless makes a critical contribution to communication: typically, it reverses the truth value of a proposition. Negation has important morphological, syntactic, and semantic properties (e.g., it can be silent, it is a scope bearing element, it licenses NPIs). It also has behavioral and neurological consequences. 

In my talk, I will do three things (time permitting):

a. I will show new evidence about the processing of two negations, that indicates that Monotonicity (e.g., Fauconnier, 1975; Ladusaw, 1980, passim) is an important psycholinguistic construct.

b. I will review some new results from the processing of overt and covert negation in the brain.

c. I will show some applications of the knowledge accumulated above: I will demonstrate the value of our new iPad apps in (i) the testing and rehabilitation of language functions in stroke victims who have aphasia; and (ii) the intra-operative testing of negation during awake brain surgery.
